Award for tourism website

By Our Staff Correspondent

CHANDIGARH Nov 11. Punjab's official website on tourism was conferred with the prestigious "Merit Award" under the best website category during the 7th National Conference on e-Governance held at Chennai recently.

Disclosing this here today, the Principal Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Romila Dubey said that the award has been bestowed in recognition of the achievements of Punjab government in drawing people's attention towards the rich cultural traditions of Punjab and also promoting the state as a tourism destination. www.punjabtourism.org was the only tourism website to get the award among many other competing national websites, she added.

Mrs Dubey said that the website, which was launched in September this year by the Chief Minister, was aimed at exhibiting Punjab as a premier destination for tourists and investors alike. A number of innovative features were built to highlight unexplored features of Punjab, which include wildlife and festival tours.

She also said that unlike most other tourism sites, Punjab's was just not about information of different places to visit, it provided an enriching user experience and ensured that visitors were drawn to this site.

"We decided to go in for a professional design agency to cater to the different kind of visitors and at a single click, all information will be readily accessible," she added. Referring to the space devoted to the Non Resident Indians, Mrs. Dubey said that it offered information about customised travel tours with a database of places to proposed to be visited.

The site also has special section for pilgrims. Some of the other unique features were business zone, weekend tour, traveller's tool kit, event calendar and festival tour.
