Congress candidates elected to ZP posts

BANGALORE NOV. 11. K. Ramesh and D.C. Ramesh were today elected unopposed as President and Vice-President of the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat.

The Bangalore Rural District Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, B.P. Kaniram, announced the election of the candidates, according to a press release here.

Mr. K. Ramesh said he would give priority to solve basic problems confronting the people.

The Ministers, D.K. Shivakumar, H.M. Revanna, and the MLA, C.M. Lingappa, congratulated the newly elected President and Vice-President, the release added.

Bellary ZP

Our Bellary Staff Correspondent writes:

G. Umesh and Sudharani of the Congress were today elected unopposed as President and Vice-President, respectively, of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat. They will be in office for the last 20 months of the five-year term of the elected body.

The President's post was reserved for an OBC `A' candidate and that of the Vice-President for a Scheduled Caste (woman) candidate. Mr. Umesh represents Hagari Bommanahalli constituency and Ms. Sudharani represents Hatcholli in Sirguppa taluk.

Though two more members were eligible for the posts, they did not file their nominations. S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner, who is also the in-charge Chief Executive Officer, conducted the election proceedings.

K.C. Kondaiah, M. Shankar Reddy, Chairman of the Karnataka State Small Industries Investment Corporation, and Shiraj Sheikh, Kudligi MLA and President of the Bellary District Congress Committee, were among the leaders present.

Mr. Umesh told presspersons after the elections that he would accord top priority to the development of the district. Apart from taking steps to complete all drinking water supply projects, Mr. Umesh said he would also expedite the works taken up under the special package for the development of Bellary district.

Karwar ZP

Our Karwar Correspondent writes:

Ramakrishna Moolimani and Gayatri Gowda of the Congress were today elected unopposed as President and Vice-President, respectively, of the Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat. The Deputy Commissioner, Rakesh Singh, who was the election officer, conducted the elections.

The Minister for Large- and Medium-scale Industries, R.V. Deshpande, who is the district in-charge Minister, expressed his happiness over unanimous choice of the candidates for the posts. The Minister told presspersons here that there were other members of the party who were equally competent. But when the opinion of the party members was sought, all of them supported Mr. Moolimani and Ms. Gowda.

Hanumant Kotbagi was the party observer.

The outgoing President, Shashikala Patil and the Vice-President, Rama Moger, thanked the members for their cooperation during their tenure. The President and the Vice-President elect thanked the members and said they would strive hard to bring a good name to the zilla panchayat.
