The Governor had, in a communication to the Government, sought the stand of the Government on the issue after the Opposition represented the matter to the Governor. The Chief Minister called on the Governor this morning to explain the situation. He was with the Governor for about 15 minutes. The Cabinet is slated to discuss tomorrow the Opposition demand and the question of the Government seeking a confidence vote in the Assembly. While the Chief Minister and his group are inclined to convene the Assembly, some of the UDF constituents are apprehensive that it would lead to a split in the Congress. This, they fear, would in turn destabilise the UDF.
