They also wore black badges on November 10 as a mark of protest against the verdict. The present government, in a bid to intimidate the members of the fourth estate, had virtually unleashed a war against the media ever since it assumed office two and a half years ago. The slew of criminal defamatory cases being filed against the Press by the State Government was a futile attempt to demoralise the members of the media, they said. They also condemned the ``highhandedness'' of the police, which entered the office premises of The Hindu without any valid document minutes after the verdict was given by the Speaker, K. Kalimuthu.
