Dwarfs demand their due

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD NOV. 11. About 80 dwarfs of the city have threatened to commit suicide by taking a plunge into the Hussain Sagar Lake if their demand for facilities on a par with those extended the to physically handicapped were not met within the next five days.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, B. Mallesh, president of the Maraguchi Association, reiterated the demand for bus and train passes facility, the way it was provided for the physically handicapped. "We were eligible for these passes till it was withdrawn in 1997," he said.

The other demands made included jobs to the educated, pension to the unemployed, house sites and ration cards. The association had made several representations on these demands and even met the Governor, S.S. Barnala, and the Home Minister, T. Devender Goud, with their plea.

"We face lot of hardships in daily life due to our handicap. If there is no support from the Government, we have no choice but to commit suicide. If our demands are not met within five days, we will jump into the Hussain Sagar," Mr. Mallesh said.
