Advocates protest assault

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Nov. 11. A group of advocates belonging to the Madras High Court Advocates Association today staged a demonstration on the court premises to ``condemn an unwarranted brutal attack on their colleague'', K.V.P. Deepak Raj, by the police two days ago.

According to the MHAA president, S. Prabakaran, the advocate was assaulted by a constable, Senthil, and a traffic sub-inspector, Julius Christopher, at Adyar here on November 9, after a wordy altercation. ``Apparently, the argument came up after the police regulated traffic for a VVIP in the area.''

The protesters urged the Commissioner of Greater Chennai to take action against the ``erring'' police personnel within two days.

The association earlier held an extraordinary general body meeting to discuss the issue.
