Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to the editorial, "Andhra Pradesh in election mode" ( Nov. 07 ). Chandrababu Naidu's gesture of showering benefits on the farm sector, and people below the poverty line in October was a clear indicator of early Assembly polls. Following the overwhelming sympathy after the assassination bid in Tirupati, the shrewd politician in him thinks that early elections will pay rich dividends. But he should realise that it will not be a cakewalk for him. G.M. Rama Rao, Visakhapatnam, A.P. * * *
Sir, The article "Early elections & TDP calculations" (Nov. 8) highlights the strengths and weaknesses of Mr. Naidu. The TDP's fortunes hinge on factionalism in the Congress. But Mr. Naidu has gained a larger-than-life image for his reforms. He is portrayed as a revolutionary leader in IT and a peerless champion of the rural poor. In the absence of a credible alternative, the TDP stands a bright chance. P.K. Varadarajan, Chennai
