The current visit of the Norwegian facilitators was scheduled before the political standoff between the President and the Prime Minister. Since their arrival in the island on Tuesday, the facilitators met the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe and leaders of Tamil and Muslim parties yesterday. The Tamil political parties emphasised that unless the President and the Prime Minister "settle the differences and defuse the constitutional standoff in the south, the peace process cannot go forward''. Mr. Helgesen and Mr. Solheim are scheduled to meet the leadership of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, in the rebel-held northern Sri Lanka tomorrow.
