Cong. sending feelers to TRS, says KCR

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov. 12. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has said there are signals from the Congress for an alliance with TRS in the coming elections.

He said proposals for a tie-up with the Congress were being processed. "Time will tell you about the tie-up, but the entire Opposition including the Left wants to avoid split of the anti-Government vote," he said.

The TRS is also in active consultation with the Left parties. The MIM has in principle agreed for an alliance, though no formal discussions were held with the party.

Mr. Rao said TDP leaders were making baseless charges against the TRS out of fear of a possible alliance between the TRS and Congress.

On the TDP criticism that the TRS president was power hungry, he said it was in fact the TDP president and Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was capable of donning any role to stay in power. This was amply evident from the spree of sops being announced to different sections, which had been ignored over the past eight years. "Mr. Naidu who washed his hands of the power tariff hikes on the pretext of an independent Electricity Regulatory Commission has now announced sops like rebate on the Tatkal rates and waiver of power dues to SC/ST colonies. Did he take the permission of the ERC before giving the assurances? This is Mr Chandrababu Naidu's style of cheating the people," he said.

Mr. Rao was critical of the Government for the spate of transfers.
