In another second-round encounter, Vijay Kannan went down 2-6, 1-6 to third-seeded Herbert Wiltschnig of Austria. There was better success for the Indian lads in doubles, as two teams made the semifinals. Ajay Ramaswami and Sunil Kumar beat Jasper Smit and Bart van Delft of the Netherlands 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, to set up a semifinal clash with Juan-Ignacic Cerda of Chile and Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei. Manoj Mahadevan and Vinod Sridhar had a 7-5, 6-4 victory over second-seeded Mustafa Ghouse and Vijay Kannan. The duo will meet third-seeded Herbert Wiltschnig and Martin Slanar of Austria in the semifinals.
