Talking to reporters, Mr. Dasgupta said that as that as many as six lakh industrial houses were remaining closed and one crore employees had been retrenched. The number of unemployed was 4.5 crores. Coir, tea and all small-scale industries were in a bad state, he said. The Central trade unions have decided to raise a revolt in protest against the disinvestment policy of the Centre, he said. He said the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, should clarify the party's stand on economic policies.
