AITUC warns of strike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 12. The Central trade unions would go on a nationwide general strike on the second day of the next budget session of Parliament in protest against the "anti-labour policies of the Centre", the AITUC national general secretary, Gurudas Dasgupta, said here today.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Dasgupta said that as that as many as six lakh industrial houses were remaining closed and one crore employees had been retrenched. The number of unemployed was 4.5 crores. Coir, tea and all small-scale industries were in a bad state, he said. The Central trade unions have decided to raise a revolt in protest against the disinvestment policy of the Centre, he said.

He said the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, should clarify the party's stand on economic policies.
