Civic officials urged to act on complaints

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Nov. 12. "Sir, this is election time. Please take action on the complaints made. A majority of the corporators are not working as also employees at the lower levels. Please do not spare the corrupt and act sternly against them," was the request from a complainant to the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, the MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, and other officials at the weekly `Face to Face' programme here on Wednesday.

Prakash from Lalapet while complaining against road widening, mosquito menace, haphazard parking of sand laden lorries, encroachments, etc., advised Mr. Reddy to act keeping in mind the forthcoming elections.

Save for a few complaints about irregular water supply (from Balraj in Amberpet), sewerage leak (from Hasan Khan in Asifnagar) and need for speed breakers (from Vijayakumar in Leelanagar), the programme got more complaints about illegal constructions and encroachments.

Amjad Ali from Masab Tank said an illegal structure had come up in a vacant plot where a religious place and commercial establishments were being run. Suresh from B.K. Guda complained against his builder who had constructed an illegal penthouse atop the apartment complex.

Ashok from Musheerabad felt several apartment complexes coming up behind the Telephone exchange were "illegal" and the resultant pressure on the sewerage lines. He particularly mentioned about a tall structure coming up on a Government land. Kusum Kumari from Srinagar colony said that a mess and men's hostel was being run without permission in her apartments.

The space meant for the parking lot was being utilised to set up water tank.

Radha from Nagole complained against the BSNL for the inordinate delay in returning deposit money on cancellation of telephone connection in July. As no BSNL official was present, Ms. Ramachandran said the complaint would be referred to the BSNL.
