Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By V. V. Subrahmanyam
While the top brass of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is in no mood to reply to this query, the UCO Bank, which is authorised to sell the tickets, has maintained that it was given "very few tickets" to be sold. The bank officials, when contacted expressed doubts on whether they would be able to cope with the huge demand. "In fact, we are now wondering whether we did the right thing to accept the sale of tickets through our Bank outlets," remarked a senior official. The UCO Bank will be selling tickets with denominations of Rs. 150, Rs. 800 and Rs. 2,000 through four of its branches in Secunderabad, Banjara Hills, Malakpet and Ashoknagar. The ticket sales are to commence from Thursday. Meanwhile, a notice put up by the bank at its Secundrabad branch has raised many an eyebrow. The bank notified that only 1,000 tickets of various denominations are to be sold at the Secunderabad branch on Thursday. This notice has led to speculation that the other branches too would sell only a few thousand tickets only. The inescapable conclusion that one can arrive at is that the HCA had blocked a few thousand seats, while selling very few tickets for general public. Efforts to contact the HCA to seek clarifications proved futile, as none of the officials were available for comment.
