Letters to the Editor
Sir, Shobha De's revelation about Ahmedabad's elite ( Nov. 13 ) was shocking. After a function organised in the city to felicitate her where she spoke her mind about the post-Godhra riots, Ms. De asked some members of the audience whether they would pick up a knife or a gun or an axe and kill their neighbours. She was horrified to see the number of educated people who said they would. Violence only begets more violence. There is no end to it. G. Purushothaman, Tirunelveli, T.N. * * * Sir, The irresponsible behaviour of the local press in connivance with the Gujarat Government to harrass Ms. Sarabhai is deplorable. People must realise that standing for truth and secularism is not a crime. Zaheer, Tiruchi, T.N.
