Writ challenging Govt. proposals dismissed

HYDERABAD NOV. 14. A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising of Chief Justice, Devinder Gupta, and Justice, C.V. Ramulu, on Thursday dismissed the writ petitions filed in public interest challenging the proposals of the State Government in seeking to regularise the occupations of excess land identified in the Urban Land Ceiling Act.

Practising advocate, Rammamohan Reddy, filed a writ petition saying that two GOs have been issued permitting the Government to collect market rate from persons who are not in occupation of the excess lands. The petitioner said the GOs are against the provisions of the original Act, which contemplate excess land to be distributed among the landless poor and to be used for welfare measures. The Bench felt that it is a policy decision of the State Government, which has been taken after considering all the issues involved.
