NTPC blames Coal India for power shortage

By Our Special Correspondent

PATNA Nov. 15. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has held Coal India Limited (CIL) responsible for the former's generation of power below capacity, especially in the Eastern region.

The NTPC executive director for Eastern region, Valmiki Prasad, charged that the internal problems in the CIL had affected power generation as a result of which power supply to grids in the North, South and West had to be reduced.

There had been problems in despatch of coal since April last and NTPC power stations at Farakka, Kahalgaon and Talcher did not have even a day's stock as against the norm of maintaining at least 15 days' stock of coal. He said the NTPC had taken up the issue with the authorities in Delhi.
