BJP urges EC to hold early polls

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD NOV. 15. The BJP president, N. Indrasena Reddy, on Saturday urged the Election Commission to hold early elections to the State Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to newsmen here after launching the BJP `Jana chaitanya sadassus for land and water' in Nizamabad town and Mudhole of neighouring Adilabad district, Mr. Indrasena Reddy said the State executive of the party is meeting on November 19, where the Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh's observation and the political developments in wake of the dissolution of the Assembly would be discussed.

Stating that the BJP was prepared to face the election, Mr. Reddy said the TDP-BJP combine would romp home easily. Though no seat-sharing talks have taken place, the modalities would be discussed after the election notification is issued. He said the aim of the combine was to ensure the defeat of the Congress.

On the talk of an alliance between the Congress, the Telangana Rastra Samithi and other opposition parties, Mr. Reddy said the Congress was now talking of alliance with like-minded parties as it was not prepared to face the TDP-BJP combine. He ridiculed the demand made by the PCC president, D. Srinivas, for imposition of President's rule in the State.

He questioned as to whether President's rule was imposed in other States, which are going to polls in December. The BJP chief said the PCC leader's statement appeared as an excuse to prolong the elections as the party was not ready for the poll.

To a question on naxalite violence being a major plank in the election, Mr. Reddy said his party echoed the sentiments of the TDP to expose the PW violence and seek an answer from the electorate.

The party vice-president, S.V. Seshagiri Rao, the BJYM president, Pradeep, the district chief, Y. Laxminarayana, and others were present.
