Tight security cordon for VVIPs visit

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Nov. 15. The temple town is being fortified with the deployment of forces at vulnerable and sensitive spots in view of the visit of the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Governor; S.S. Barnala, and the caretaker Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of S.V. University.

They will also participate in the 78th annual meet of the Association of Indian Universities.

The tour of the VVIPs -- all in Z-Plus category -- on the heels of the naxalite attack on Mr. Naidu's convoy on Tirumala ghat road has made the police start the security drill well ahead of the visit.

The Chittoor SP, M.V. Ramachandra Raju, who is camping here for last one week despatched a contingent of SIs allocating a sector each to all for close surveillance till the departure of the VVIPs.

They were asked to check the culverts, bylanes and vulnerable spots using the bomb disposal and dog squads.

They were also asked to keep check on strangers and to prepare sector profiles and keep in touch with the centre, specially set up in the Control Room.
