Nephrology meet in Vizag from Dec. 5

VISAKHAPATNAM NOV. 15. As many as 10 lakh new kidney malfunctioning cases are being reported every year in the country and one lakh of them need transplantation. However, only 3,500 transplantations are taking place.

The 34th annual conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISNCON-2003), being held here from December 5 to 7, will discuss this and various other aspects of nephrology.

Over 500 delegates, including 20 from foreign countries, would participate in the conference, the Head of the Department of Nephrology of the King George Hospital and Andhra Medical College and organising secretary of the meting, T. Raviraju, informed.

A workshop on renal biopsy would be held on the inaugural day, followed by the `K.S. Chugh Award' oration on December 6 by a nephrologist from the US, P.C. Singhal.

On December 4, an interactive session on renal pathology would be conducted, Dr. Raviraju said.

Lectures and symposia on several topics like chronic kidney diseases, hyponatremia, dialysis, acute renal failure, pregnancy and kidney diseases, renal transplantation, immunosuppressive drugs, etc., would be held during the conference to be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Health, Sushma Swaraj.
