Crafts Bazaar draws good response

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE Nov. 15. The Crafts Bazaar organised at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium as part of the Rural Networking Forum (RNF) has generated direct business worth Rs. 9 lakh and business orders amounting to Rs. 40 lakh.

The seven-day event provided a platform for rural artisans from all over the country to not only showcase their products, but also put them up for sale to the customers directly and bag business orders.

By the time curtains came down on the Crafts Bazaar on Friday, about 35,000 people from Mysore and surrounding places had visited it and the RNF Exhibition.

The Crafts Bazaar opened on November 8 and ended on November 14 while the RNF Exhibition began on November 8 and ended on November 10.

The Crafts Bazaar and the RNF Exhibition were organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as part of its conference-cum-exhibition on rural networking.

Craftsmen and rural artisans from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra and other States showcased their products at the Crafts Bazaar.

The RNF Exhibition showcased various products made by the self-help group (SHG) members from rural areas in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. More than 100 exhibitors from these two States took part in the exhibition.

A special attraction of the event was the visit of SHG members from the various districts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

"About 6,000 SHG women members from Karnataka visited the exhibition, and 400 SHG members from Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, and Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu visited the RNF show", a release from the CII said.

Quoting the SHG women, the CII claimed that the event had given the SHG women an opportunity to expose their initiatives to their counterparts from across the region.

Also, the event had helped them understand the concept of supply chain management.

The forum provided them a platform for market linkages with the corporate sector, besides various development organisations and customers.

The CII had organised the RNF Exhibition and Crafts Bazaar as part of the conference on rural networking with a view to creating market linkages for rural non-farm sector produce.

Poor market linkage between the products brought out by the rural entrepreneur or the SHG with the end consumer was identified as the "biggest challenge" of the rural non-farm sector.
