Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Special Correspondent
The Corporation had given sub-leases for around 1,100 acres to seven private parties. However, the land in question is forest land that was given on lease to the Corporation in 1966. As per the terms of the lease, the Corporation is not allowed to lease or let out the land without the permission of the Government. After 1980, leasing also required clearance from the Central Government under the Forest (Conservation) Act. The Corporation gave the land on lease for 14 years without the permission of the Government. The lease rent was fixed at around Rs. 12,500 a hectare for the first three years and about Rs. 22,000 for the remaining period of the lease, it is learnt.
