Nominations in order in Shimoga district

SHIMOGA Nov. 15. The nominations filed by eight candidates for the elections to the Legislative Council from the local authorities constituency in Shimoga district were found in order during scrutiny here today.

The candidates who have filed nominations are the DCC President, Mir Azeez Ahmed (Congress), Shantaveerappa Gowda (BJP), Trishulpani Patel (AIPJD), Krishnegowda (JD-S), S.P. Seshadri, P.M. Kariappa, M.R. Chandrasen Jadhav, and Deveraje Gowda (independents).

Papers rejected

Our Gulbarga Special Correspondent writes:

The nomination papers filed by an independent candidate, Ramu Chatru Chavan, were rejected during scrutiny. The Returning Officer, Anjum Parvez, said the nomination papers of Mr. Chavan were rejected as the candidate had submitted the deposit of Rs. 2,500 along with the nomination papers.

However, the papers of Arunkumar Oza, an associate member of the Congress in the Gulbarga City Municipal Corporation who is contesting as an independent, Amatappa Kandakur of the Congress, David Simeon and Shankaranna Vonekyal (both JD-S), and Shivasharanappa Nigudgi and Seethkant Tadkal of the AIPJD were found in order.

Our Bellary Staff Correspondent writes:

The clearance of the nomination papers of the JD(S) candidate was withheld while the papers of three other candidates were accepted.

During the scrutiny of papers here today, the Congress candidate, K.S.L. Swamy raised an objection that the JD(S) candidate, Anil Lad, had not completed 30 years of age and, therefore, his nomination papers should be rejected.

S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, announced that a decision would be announced on Monday.

Mr. Jayaram, cleared the other nomination papers.

One nomination rejected

Our Raichur Staff Correspondent writes:

The nomination papers filed by Sharanmma Kamareddy of the AIPJD were rejected during scrutiny today.

G.N. Nayak, Deputy Commissioner, accepted the nomination papers filed by H.R. Srinath of the Congress, M.S. Pail of the JD(S), Venkat Rao Nadagouda of the AIPJD, and Govindamma, Hanumavva Naik, and Basavaraj Bhajantri, all independents.

Our Bijapur Staff Correspondent writes:

All the 17 nomination papers submitted by different party candidates and independents for elections to the Council from Bijapur district were accepted after scrutiny today.
