Papers rejected
Our Gulbarga Special Correspondent writes: The nomination papers filed by an independent candidate, Ramu Chatru Chavan, were rejected during scrutiny. The Returning Officer, Anjum Parvez, said the nomination papers of Mr. Chavan were rejected as the candidate had submitted the deposit of Rs. 2,500 along with the nomination papers. However, the papers of Arunkumar Oza, an associate member of the Congress in the Gulbarga City Municipal Corporation who is contesting as an independent, Amatappa Kandakur of the Congress, David Simeon and Shankaranna Vonekyal (both JD-S), and Shivasharanappa Nigudgi and Seethkant Tadkal of the AIPJD were found in order.
Our Bellary Staff Correspondent writes: The clearance of the nomination papers of the JD(S) candidate was withheld while the papers of three other candidates were accepted. During the scrutiny of papers here today, the Congress candidate, K.S.L. Swamy raised an objection that the JD(S) candidate, Anil Lad, had not completed 30 years of age and, therefore, his nomination papers should be rejected. S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, announced that a decision would be announced on Monday. Mr. Jayaram, cleared the other nomination papers.
