White House for early confirmation for Mulford

By Sridhar Krishnaswami

WASHINGTON NOV. 15. The White House has said that it is looking for an early confirmation of the next United States Ambassador to India, David Mulford.

The President, George W. Bush, on Wednesday expressed his intent to nominate Mr. Mulford, Chairman of Credit Suisse International, as the next American envoy to India. Mr. Mulford will have to first appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for the hearings process. "He (Dr. Mulford) replaces or will replace a very highly qualified individual who did an outstanding job," the White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said in a reference to Robert Blackwill, who left New Delhi to join the National Security Council.
