This Day That Age
Dr. Tahnbi Ramaswamy Naidoo (51), Vice-President of the Transvaal Indian Congress and an adopted son of Mahatma Gandhi, died in his home in Johannesburg on the 15th. His father, Mr. Tahnbi Naidoo, had been closely associated with the Mahatma in South Africa, and was one of the chief leaders of the passive resistance struggle for human rights then. Mr. Yusuf Cachalia, Secretary of the South African Indian Congress, said that in Dr. Naidoo's passing away not only the South African Indian community, but the country's non-European community as a whole had lost a courageous and principled leader.
