Rajasthan
By Our Special Correspondent
The leaders said they were aware that the party had competent workers and leaders in each of the constituencies who could not be given the tickets as only one could be made the official nominee. The party appreciated the spirit of those who applied for the ticket and could not get, they said. It was the duty of each Congressman to support the official candidates chosen by the Congress high command, Mr.Gehlot and Dr.Vyas noted. All the Congressmen should join hands to defeat the communal forces, they exhorted. In a separate statement, senior leader and chairman of the Congress Election Campaign Committee, Ram Niwas Mirdha, made a similar appeal to partymen and sought from them a display of discipline, unity and commitment to the party. The appeal from Mr.Mirdha specifically mentioned the Congress party's longstanding commitment to the poor, workers, farmers, backwards, Dalits and the minorities. He said that the people of Rajasthan could differentiate between those who remembered them only at the time of the elections and who remained in touch throughout sharing their sorrow and happiness.
