Digvijay's 'innovative' governance hailed

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL NOV. 16. The Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today praised his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Digvijay Singh's "innovative governance'' and said that there is a discernible pro-Congress wave in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. About Chhattisgarh, he said, it would not be proper to say anything at this stage as he had not toured that State.

Capt. Amarinder Singh, here on an election tour, was talking to media persons at the State Congress headquarters here this morning. The Rajya Sabha member and in-charge of the MPCC's media cell, Suresh Pachauri was also present on this occasion.

Showering praises on Mr. Digvijay Singh, the Punjab Chief Minister said he would be making a hat trick by coming back to power for the third consecutive term.

Answering a pointed query regarding the tardy pace of progress in Madhya Pradesh, Capt. Amarinder Singh said that it would take time to develop a big State like Madhya Pradesh. Regarding poor roads and the electricity crisis in the State, he said, these problems are not confined merely to Madhya Pradesh but were being confronted by the people across the country.

He took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party led-Central Government saying that it had been partial and was discriminating against the Congress-ruled states. To drive home his point, he said, the Punjab Government's demand for the annual allocation of Rs. 1260 crores to change the cropping pattern in his State over a two-year period had been rejected whereas the Central Government's new Industrial Policy had a provision for a 10-year tax holiday for Haryana and Uttaranchal.

Capt. Amarinder Singh said that a charge-sheet would soon be filed against the former Punjab Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal. He even accused Mr. Badal of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income and went on to allege that it was estimated at over Rs. 3,500 crores.
