Crude bombs found outside temple

Ahmedabad Nov. 16. Police recovered seven crude bombs, packed in pan masala tin boxes, today from outside a temple in Vatva on the outskirts of the city, police said.

Senior police officers along with the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the crude devices did not have a fuse wire and could explode only when hurled.

The Additional Commissioner of Police, Keshav Kumar, said it looked as if the bombs had been just ``discarded'' rather than "planted".

``Preliminary investigation by the bomb disposal squad revealed that the tin cans were totally rusted, thus indicating they had been lying around for some time and would not have had much impact if they had exploded'' Mr. Kumar said.
