Mr. Vajpayee said facts were being gathered and action would be taken if Mr. Judev, Minister of State for Environment and Forests, were found guilty. "It is election time. I do not think he should step down as soon as charges are levelled," he told reporters here on his return from a week-long tour of Russia, Tajikistan and Syria. The Prime Minister said "the media should not pre-judge the issue" and he did not agree that the Minister should quit even before the probe was completed. Mr. Vajpayee said, "It is a policy of my Government to carry out open probe into all charges of corruption and an inquiry is already being conducted." To a question about a CBI probe, the Prime Minister remained non-committal. Mr. Vajpayee said the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, was looking into the issue. PTI
