Speaking to newsmen here today, he wanted the IT sector to consolidate on its intrinsic strengths in order to achieve the export target of $50 billion by 2008. The ESC, in consultation with the ministries cf Commerce and IT, is chalking out strategies to enhance the IT sector's presence in the existing markets such as the U.S., the European Union and Japan as well as creating footholds in largely virgin markets. Releasing the provisional figures, Mr. Sareen said in absolute terms, exports of electronic hardware and computer software and services were estimated to have gone up from Rs. 23,366 crores during April-September 2002 to Rs. 30,623 crores in the same period this year.
