Second-seeded S. Vijayalakshmi of Indian Airlines maintained her sole second position with 12 points after posting two easy victories today. With three rounds remaining, there's no change in the third position as well, as Nisha Mohota of LIC moved to 9.5 points, after drawing both her games today, with lesser rated opponents teammate Swati Ghate and fellow-Kolkatan, Saheli Nath. D. Harika moved to fourth with 9 points, though she was held to a draw in the 13th round by S. Meenakshi. Meenakshi and Eesha Karvade, who was held by Saimeera Ravi, have 8.5 points each. It was a good day for Saimeera, as she had beaten Prathiba earlier in the day. In the 14th round, Humpy had to work hard for her win against M.R. Sangeetha from Chennai. In the Queen's Indian game, Humpy, with white, gave her rival some counterplay with a dubious king-side pawn push on the 12th move. Sangeetha had a better position in the middle-game too, but she failed to take advantage and lost in 49 moves, having lost an exchange. In the morning, Humpy employed the Pirc Defence against Aarthie, who erred in the opening yet again. Her reckless 10th move saw her own dark-square bishop virtually going out of play, while its counterpart was threatening to cause damage. Black's other pieces were also coordinating well, and she was poised for a strong attack on the king-side, defending which wasn't easy for Aarthie. By the 32nd move, she was down by a piece and a pawn, and for Humpy it was another comfortable victory. Vijayalakshmi adopted the Tarrasch Defence against Tania Sachdev of Delhi. White had only herself to blame for walking into a hopeless position and resigned after 25 moves; she was a pawn down, had a weak pawn structure, her rook was badly placed and her rival had a passer. Vijayalakshmi had it easy in the morning too, as she punished Kruttika for mishandling the Ruy Lopez Opening, at the end of which she was a pawn up, with no weaknesses. She exchanged queens on the 21st move to enter the end-game with that extra pawn. On the 45th move white was forced to give a piece to kill a promoted pawn. She finally gave up after 70 moves. Meenakshi did well to hold third-seeded Harika to a draw in 48 moves of Slav Defence. In the afternoon, Harika, with black pieces, defeated Humpy's younger sister Koneru Chandra Hawsa in 65 moves of Trompowsky Attack. The results (14th round): Tania Sachdev (Del) 6.5 lost to S. Vijayalakshmi (IA) 12; Swati Ghate (LIC) 7 bt Kruttika Nadig (Mah) 6.5; Saheli Nath (Ben) 6 drew with Nisha Mohota (LIC) 9.5; Koneru Humpy (AP) 13.5 bt M.R. Sangeetha (TN) 2.5; S. Meenakshi (IA) 8.5 drew with Aarthie Ramaswamy (TN) 6.5; Koneru Chandra Hawsa (AP) 5.5 lost to D. Harika (AP) 9; C.V. Rajalakshmi (TN) 1.5 lost to Anupama Gokhale (BP) 6.5; Y. Prathiba (TN) 5.5 lost to Bhagyashree Thipsay (IDBI) 5.5; Eesha Karvade (Mah) 8.5 drew with Saimeera Ravi (IB) 5.5. 13th round: Eesha drew with Tania; Saimeera bt Prathiba; Bhagyashree bt Rajalaskshmi; Anupama bt Chandra Hawsa; Harika drew with Meenakshi; Aarthie lost to Humpy; Sangeetha drew with Saheli; Nisha drew with Swati; Kruttika lost to Vijayalakshmi.
