No dissidence in Punjab Congress

Moga Nov 17. Punjab Congress chief, H. S. Hanspal, has denied that there was any dissidence in the party's state unit and said the entire party machinery was ``solidly behind'' Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

``Rumours in this regard are the outcome of frustration of Shiromani Akali Dal and some vested interests who want to malign our party'', Hanspal told reporters here last evening.

The entire Congress party as well as all the MLAs were ``solidly behind'' Chief Minister Amrinder Singh who enjoyed ``full confidence'', he said.

Hanspal also denied having any information of a meeting of dissidents about three-four days back who were planning to approach high command after the coming Assembly elections in five states.

He made it clear that there was absolutely no possibility of any change in the leadership in the state Congress Legislature Party (CLP) after the elections adding that Amarinder Singh would remain the leader of the CLP for the full term of five years.

When questioned about the recent transfers of police officials in the state and if there was any controversy between the chief minister and the DGP or in the police department, Hanspal said that there was no resentment among the police officials.

``Moreover, it is the prerogative of the chief minister to order transfers of the police officials,'' he said.
