The CPI(M) has been having one member only in the Rajasthan Assembly for five consecutive terms in the past. Some of the leaders like Mohammed Saleem, Minister of State in West Bengal, Brinda Karat, general secretary of the All India Democratic Women's Association and Sarla Maheshwari, MP, have already fanned out in the State where the party is fighting 18 seats. The dates of the West Bengal Chief Minister, Budhadev Bhattacharya, and the Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar, are yet not final. The CPI(M) secretary, Vasudev, told this Correspondent in Sikar over the weekend that Mr.Bhattacharya is scheduled visit Rajasthan for two days sometime around November 27.This is the time when the party's Politburo member, Sitaram Yechuri, is also scheduled to be in Rajasthan. Mr.Yechuri is to tour Sriganganagar on November 27 and Sikar the following day. The other Minister who is expected to join the campaign here is Jitendra Choudhary of West Bengal.The other politburo member, Prakash Karat, is scheduled to tour Udaipur and Dungarpur districts where the party has fielded candidates in Phalasia and Chorasi respectively. Subhashini Ali, president of AIDWA, will be in the State for three days. Hannan Mollah, MP and in charge of Rajasthan, Nilotpal Basu, leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha, and Yogendra Sharma, member, CPI(M) Central Committee, too will be participating in the campaign spread over 13 districts. The CPI(M) has renominated Amra Ram, who won the seat in 1993 and 1998 from Dhod in Sikar while the party veteran and Kisan Sabha leader, Sheopath Singh, has been shifted from his traditional seat, Hanumangarh to Nawan in Nagaur district. The party's trade union leader, Hetram Beniwal, is fighting again from Sangaria, a seat he had won in 1990. The other candidates of the party and their respective constituencies are: Subash Nehra(Khandela), Harphool Singh(Datta Ramgarh), Lekhram Ghayal(Srimadhopur), Pema Ram(Laxmangarh-Sikar), Gurucharan Singh Moud (Karanpur), Mai Chand (Sadulpur), Vidhyadhar Singh Gill(Gudha), Vakar-Ul-Ahad(Jaipur Rural), Chunni Lal(Kumher), Kajorilal Rasgania(Laxmangarh-Alwar), Lalchand Bhadu(Lunkaransar), Duli Chand(Pipalda), Bhagirath Netad(Deedwana), Devilal Katara(Chourasi) and Prem Pargi (Phalasia). The CPI(M) State Committee member, Ravindra Shukla, claimed that the party candidates have been getting good public support. The CPI(M) has entered into seat adjustments with the other Left parties and the Janata Dal(Secular) and it has also reached an understanding with the Samajwadi Party and the Nationalist Congress Party.
