Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Special Correspondent
Mr. Deve Gowda told presspersons here today that Metro had started its operations in contravention of the approval granted to it by the Union Commerce Ministry. The former Prime Minister produced what he said was evidence to show that the Karnataka Government had granted the necessary licence to Metro one day prior to the receipt of an application from the multinational company. While the application seeking licence was received by the Government on October 7 last, the licence was granted on October 6. Mr. Gowda urged the Chief Minister to refrain from promulgating an Ordinance to enable Metro to deal with farm produce.
`Allow CBI probe'
Referring to the stamp paper racket and the demand for an investigation by the CBI, Mr. Gowda said Karnataka should fall in line with Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, had stated that there should be a full-fledged investigation by the CBI.
