'Rebels will be expelled'

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI NOV. 17. Warning the rebel candidates against taking the party for granted, the Congress leader in-charge of Delhi affairs, Ahmed Patel, today declared that those Congressmen who had filed their nomination papers against the official candidates and refused to pay heed to the advice to withdraw from the contest would face expulsion from the party. Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Patel said the party would treat the continued presence of such people in the election fray against the official nominees as a serious breach of discipline and such elements would be expelled from the party. However, Mr. Patel refused to spell out the names of those who had been short-listed for disciplinary action. Those in the line of fire include Ramesh Sabharwal, who is contesting against the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, from Gole Market.

The party could also possibly take action against those who have filed their nomination papers on the tickets of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). These include Nand Kishore Bhatt from Gole Market, Dinesh Jain from Janakpuri, Prakash Chauhan from Hari Nagar, Rajinder Bhardwaj from Hastsal, Ashutosh Upreti from Mandawali, Subhash Ahluwalia from Sarojni Nagar, Zaki Haider from Babarpur, Brijesh Kumar from Yamuna Vihar, Ajay Tyagi from Adarsh Nagar, Anil Sharma from Kamla Nagar, Sunil Sanwaria from Karol Bagh and Raj Kumar Indoria from Ram Nagar.
