New Delhi

Rivals of Mr. Yusuf from Ballimaran seat, Raj Kishore Gupta of the BJP, Naved Yaar Khan of the Indian National League, and Akram Ansari of the Bahujan Samaj Party had challenged his nomination on the ground that the Minister was the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, which was an office of profit. Mr. Pal passed the order after a hearing this morning. The order on the objections raised by his rivals on Saturday was reserved for Monday. "I welcome the order,'' said an elated Mr. Yusuf after the verdict was pronounced. At the same time, all three rival candidates said they would approach the Election Commission and higher courts against the order. Earlier, a large posse of police was stationed at the office of the Returning Officer on Kripa Narain Marg in North Delhi. The entire area was cordoned off and the shops of the area were shut down. A large number of anxious supporters of Mr. Yusuf had gathered near the office.
