Letters to the Editor
Sir, The BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, has criticised the CEC for his "instant reaction" on conducting early elections to the Andhra Pradesh (Nov. 17). The Election Commission has its own statutory schedule to adhere. The argument for a fresh mandate to deal with naxals is untenable. Tackling naxalism is a law and order problem. The Chief Minister cannot be asking for a fresh mandate every time he feels it politically convenient.
V.N. Gopal,
* * * Sir, I strongly disapprove of our politicians interfering with the rights of bureaucrats. The mode and timing of elections is the prerogative of the Election Commission.
Zaheer,
