The 14-year old Saina, already a sensation in the girls' circuit in India, in the process also won her first international title. She beat Yana Vorotnykova of Ukraine 11-3, 11-6 in the final to become the first Indian junior girl to win an international title, according to the Chief National junior Coach, Sanjiv Sachdeva. Equally noteworthy was the performance of 17-year old Anand Pawar, son of former national player Uday Pawar, who also notched up his first overseas honour, beating Adam Cwalina of Poland 15-1, 15-3 in the final. Both Saina and Anand did not lose a game en route to the title. Saina beat M. Benesova of Poland 11-7, 11-6 in the quarters and Janosova of Czech Republic 11-2, 11-5 in the semifinals. Anand got past Nejc Boljka of Slovakia 15-4, 15-3 in the quarterfinals and Kumelj Luka, also of Slovakia 15-5, 15-11 in the semifinals. The junior doubles team of T. Sowmya and Deepthi Shalini fell in the final hurdle losing to the English pair of Oliver Heather and Jennifer Wallwork 11-15, 12-15 after fighting their way to the title round. The Indian pair beat Ukranian duo of Maria Kolechina and Yana Vorotnykova 15-9, 10-15, 17-16 in the quarterfinals and Urska and Spela of Slovakia 13-15, 15-13, 15-10 in the semifinals. The boys' doubles team of T. Dinesh and Anshuman Hazarika did well to reach the semifinals before being ousted by Adam Cwalina and Wojciech of Poland 5-15, 12-15, the title-winners. The Indians had beaten Croatian pair of Luka and Zvonimir 15-9, 9-15, 15-10, the Czech team of Petr and Marek 15-4, 15-5 and Jakub and Pavel of Czech 15-8, 15-13 en route to the semifinals. According to A. Nazzar, who had accompanied the team as Coach, the tournament provided a good exposure for the Indian juniors, as there were teams from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Croatia, Austria and England. The Indian team was to participate in the Slovakian junior international also, but visa problems forced them to skip that tournament.
