Closing at 45.62/63 a dollar, little changed from yesterday's 5-week low close of 45.62/64, the rupee shot up to the day's peak of 45.45/46 on fresh exporter sales and unwinding of long dollar positions. But later succumbed to renewed dollar demand from all quarters amidst a shortage scare. It opened on a firm footing at 45.55/56 in direct reflection to the dollar's overnight fall to an all-time low against Euro amid a broad-based sell off in the U.S. currency. The rupee tumbled by over 38 paise in the earlier seven consecutive trading sessions. PTI
