The body of the victim, B. Chanti Babu, a rickshaw puller, has been sent to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. Activists of the `Kulavivaksha Vetireka Porata Sangham' staged a dharna at the village alleging that the victim died after consuming adulterated liquor. The charge assumes significance in the wake of the recent liquor tragedy in the neighbouring Guntur district where five persons died. Activists of the sangham demanded that the Government order an inquiry into the death. The president of the sangham, Nageswara Rao, asked the Government to sanction a compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs to the family of the deceased. He said the recurrent liquor deaths in the State were due to the Government's `pro-liquor' policy of maximising revenue even if it meant ruining several families.
