Railways puts off test in Mumbai

By Arunkumar Bhatt

MUMBAI NOV. 21. The Railway Ministry today decided to postpone the recruitment test for Group `D' posts scheduled here on Sunday as the Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray, threatened to obstruct it and his cadres actually started chasing away candidates coming by train.

The student's wing of the Shiv Sena, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (ABVS), accosted candidates arriving from other States, intimidated them and forced them to return by the next available train.

The ABVS chief for Thane district, Naresh Mhaske, told The Hindu that Sena activists boarded trains arriving from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi at Kalyan station last night and this morning and forced the candidates to return.

"We snatched away their hall tickets and destroyed them to ensure that they did not return and appear in the test,'' he said.
