Mr. Mutalik told presspersons here that if the Government buckled under the pressure from the "so-called secular groups" and banned the celebrations or congregation of devotees at Datta Peetha in Bababudangiri, it would result in violence and the Government would be held responsible for the consequences. The seventh anniversary of the Datta Jayanti would be observed peacefully and more than 50,000 devotees from different parts of the State were expected to participate in the three-day observation of the jayanti, he said. Criticising the demand for imposing a ban on the Datta Jayanti celebrations by the noted writer and theatre personality, Girish Karnad, and the writers, K. Marulasiddappa, Gauri Lankesh, Bhanu Mushtaq, and Shudra Srinivas, Mr. Mutalik termed those who opposed the Datta Jayanti celebrations "anti-Hindu". The Datta Jayanti had been observed peacefully at Bababudangiri for the past six years and there was no reason for these "so-called secular leaders" to seek a ban on the celebrations this year.
