The Election Commission rejected the nomination papers of Abdul Aziz Dhobi from the Seemapuri constituency saying that under Article 341 seats meant for Scheduled Castes were denied to Muslims and Christians. The protesters wanted to proceed towards the Election Commission but the authorities did not allow them. The morcha president, M. Ejaj Ali, said the rejection proved that the law was discriminating among Dalits of various communities on the ground of religion though the Constitution prohibited discrimination against citizens on the ground of religion, caste, race, sex and place of birth under Article 15 (1). Mr. Ali made a scathing attack on the Congress for putting the religious ban under Article 341 in 1950 due to which the minorities were barred from many benefits accruing to Dalits. UNI
