Addressing a public meeting at Railway Kodur on the first day of the two-day `Prajahita bus yatra' in Cuddapah district, the former CLP leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, promised free power supply to agriculturists and poor households and to extend loans on nominal interest to farmers, unemployed and DWCRA members, drawing cheers from the gathering. "People must rout the TDP which failed to benefit the common man,'' he said. The electorate lost faith in the pre-poll promises being made by the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, going by the "bitter experiences'' of the past. Mr. Naidu was promising issue of lakhs of ration cards with an eye on the coming Assembly polls, but had never bothered to issue new cards during the last eight years, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy alleged. The Government promised to construct seven lakh houses, but failed to build even five lakh houses during the last four years, but trying to "hoodwink'' people with schemes such as Deepam and Velugu, he alleged. The A.P. Congress Committee president, D. Srinivas, alleged that the Government was steeped in scams such as the fake stamp paper, fake passports, stationary and Inter marks revaluation. The TDP failed to take cognisance of people's problems during the last eight years in a `dictatorial manner', he alleged and dubbed the sops being showered on farmers and other sections an election stunt. The former Chief Minister, N. Janardhana Reddy, termed the dissolution of the Assembly a blunder. The Government secured World Bank funds and spent them but lacked accountability. Asserting that the Mr. Chandrababu Naidu would "lose miserably,'' he said the Congress would regain power and keep its promises. Another former Chief Minister, Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, said the Congress alone would ensure rural development and uplift of villagers. Mr. Naidu was boasting of development by dumping thousands of crores on beautifying Hyderabad city, but ignored the lot of people of over 50,000 villages, he alleged. The former PCC president, M. Satyanarayana Rao, said the Congress leaders were identifying themselves with the woe-struck people in the bus yatra which began from Rajahmundry. The Chief Minister and TDP leaders were talking about the downtrodden and deprived sections of people ever since the dissolution of the Assembly to lure the electorate, alleged the Rajya Sabha member, Dasari Narayana Rao. Questioning dissolution of the Assembly 11 months in advance, he said Mr. Naidu who had a two-thirds majority was `day-dreaming' of winning all the 294 seats, which was an impossibility. The people of coastal Andhra were also vexed with the TDP rule and would not vote for it again, he maintained. The former CLP leader, P. Janardhana Reddy, Rajya Sabha member, Nandi Yellaiah, former MPs, P. Upendra and A. Sai Prathap, DCC president, Shaik Hussain, ZP chairman, K. Suresh Babu, ZP vice-chairman, P. Ravindranath Reddy, Railway Kodur constituency convenor, B. Chengalarayudu, former constituency convenor, G. Venkateswara Prasad, PCC member, M. Ashok Kumar, and other party leaders participated. The leaders proceeded in a hi-tech bus followed by a convoy of cars and people who gathered near vilages en route lustily cheered and waved hands at them. The Congress leaders addressed public meetings at Obulvaripalle, Pullampet, Rajampet, Nandalur, Vontimitta and Siddhavatam mandal headquarters.
