Plan to make NCC compulsory

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 22. NCC training is likely to be made compulsory in the educational institutions in the country. A proposal to this effect is under the consideration of the Union Government, said Brig. M.P.S. Bajwa, Deputy Director General, Kerala and Lakshadweep NCC Directorate.

Once a final decision is taken in this regard, NCC (National Cadet Corps) will form part of the curriculum of the schools and colleges, he said at a press conference held here today.

This, it is expected, will discipline the youth better and create in them the spirit of nationalism, he added.

The 55th anniversary of the formation of NCC is to be celebrated on Sunday, he informed.

The State-level programmes, forming part of the NCC Day celebrations, will be inaugurated here by the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony. He will also inspect a guard of honour to be presented by the NCC cadets.

The `NCC Run for Peace', from the Thiruvananthapuram airport to the Martyrs' Column at Palayam, will be flagged off by Nalakath Soopy, Minister for Education, at 6.30 a.m. tomorrow.

As part of this year's NCC Day celebrations, a blood donation camp will be held at the NCC Group Headquarters, Thiruvananthapuram, from November 24 to 27.
