The `Model Sanskrit Vidyalayam' project is aimed at providing a view of the rich education resources in Sanskrit and to provide access to these resources to anyone who is interested in it, said a press release from the University here today. Increasing interest in Sanskrit education and introduction of new methods into the learning of Sanskrit are the other objectives of the programme. The schools, where the programme has been introduced, were chosen on the recommendation of the Director of Public Instruction (DPI), the release said. Sanskrit education in the selected schools will be provided at the introductory and informal levels. As many as 25 persons will be admitted to each of the levels and the courses are offered for a period of four months. The classes will be conducted for an hour after the normal school working hours. Informal classes will be conducted on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays while the introductory classes will be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The first and third Saturdays of each month will be set aside for seminars in which experts from outside will be invited. The informal classes are open to anyone who is interested in the programme. Certificates will be issued to successful candidates. Besides Sanskrit, there will also be classes on Indian culture and arts. The course material will be provided free-of-cost by the University.
