'Kumbakonam - The Scam' film screened

HYDERABAD NOV. 22. A screening of the Telugu movie, `Kumbakonam - The Scam' saw several people drawn from a cross-section of society converging at the Annapurna Studios Preview Theatre here on Saturday afternoon.

The movie has been dubbed from its Malayalam original titled `Praja', directed by Joshi and starring popular star, Mohanlal, with Aishwarya and Anupam Kher appearing in guest roles. It may be recalled that the original has been creating waves in Kerala, given its treatment and its `anti-establishment' stance. It has been dubbed in Telugu by A.K. Productions with Undavalli Arun Kumar, as the producer and scriptwriter.

The film has already created ripples in several circles as the Telugu version has been tailored to revolve around the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam. It has been given the treatment of a contemporary, critical piece, seeking to expose the nexus between politicians, the police and the underworld.

At a press conference before the screening, Mr. Arun Kumar said, "It is a movie that touches the fake stamp paper scam. We are not impersonating anyone and it is certainly not mimicry. It is just an account of what is happening in A.P."
