International meet on tourism from Dec. 2

By Our Special Correspondent

Hyderabad Nov. 22. The fourth international conference-cum-showcase on tourism is being organised here for three days from December 2 with participation of seven countries and seven States in the country.

The conference, being jointly organised by the Governments of India and China and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and named `India: Tourism and Heritage-Challenge-21', will bring delegates from China, Singapore, Nepal, Dubai, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the States of Andhra Pradesh, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Chandigarh, Karnataka and Kerala on a common platform for the first time to address problems relating to marketing India, civil aviation, increased air trips, tax structure, innovative use of IT and preservation of heritage.

Announcing these details at a press conference here on Saturday, the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav, the CII Deputy Director-General, M. Roy, Y. Harish Chandra Prasad of Lanco group representing the local CII, and A. Srikanth, additional Tourism Secretary, hoped that the event would bring in some new projects, including the one connecting all Buddhist centres in the State with the help of the Chinese Government. Andhra Pradesh became a natural choice for the conference in view of the pro-active nature of the State Government and the rich cultural heritage it represents, Ms. Roy said.

The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Jagmohan, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and international experts on tourism, would attend the inaugural. There would be an exhibition on all the three days with stalls set up by more than 50 exhibitors, while the second day would see an international conference in the morning on theme and a heritage walk at Charminar in the evening.

Ms. Roy said tourism held the key to tackle the unemployment problem, saying full potential of this sector was not yet tapped.
