Losing yet another 4-1/2 paise from Monday's finish of 45.88/89, the rupee came under renewed pressure, as the usual month-end considerations emerged to compound the domestic currency's woes ahead of the Id-Ul-Fitr holiday tomorrow, dealers said. The rupee declined by 13 paise yesterday and by over 65 paise since November 10, pulled down by persistent hectic all round dollar demand in the face of dwindling dollar supplies. In moderately active but slightly nervous trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened on a weak note at 45.90/91 and dipped to the intraday low of 45.95/97, before settling at 45.9250/9350.
