Scholars, seers to attend meet on Gita

BANGALORE Nov. 25. A three-day Global Gita Conference will be held here from Friday. Acclaimed scholars and religious leaders will present their views on the Gita at the conference.

To be held at the J. N. Tata Auditorium, the event will to be open public. It will have a multi media approach with audiovisual presentations, a book exhibition, an artists' camp, recitation competition for children and youth, and interactive sessions. S.K. Ramachandra Rao, N.S. Anantharangachar, Mathoor Krishnamurti, G.V. Iyer, Jaya Row, Prema Pandurang, Aralumallige Parthasarthy, and Mumtaz Ali Khan, will share the dais with the likes of Dr. Jack Hawley of the U.S., author of Reawakening The Spirit in Work — The power of Dharmic Management and The Bhagavad Gita: A Walkthrough for Westerners.

T.S. Rukmani, Professor in the Department of Religion, Concordia University, Canada, Thomas Athanasius, Bishop, Muvattupuzha, Kerala, Justice Y.Bhaskar Rao, Member, Human Rights Commission, and Justice M. N. Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of India, are likely to speak.

Dr. P.V. Nath, Founder-Director of the International Gita Foundation Trust, told The Hindu that promoting the Gita as "a dynamic philosophy particularly relevant to present times" was the aim of the foundation.

An annual conference, "Gita Gnana Yagna", to be initially held in different districts of Karnataka, and an international conference once in three years, were on the agenda, he said. Studied views on the Gita would be accepted and posted on the website:wwwgitainternational.org.

Gita Ashttotaram, an audiocassette on the Gita and Krishnam Vande Jagaduru, a souvenir containing the presentations of the 55 religious heads and scholars drawn from around the world, would be brought out on the occasion. The book exhibition would comprise all publications released on the Gita. Ms. Jaya Row would conduct classes covering all the 18 chapters of the Gita. G.V.Iyer's film, Bhagavad Gita, would be screened.

On Saturday, there will be a special session on "Gita and administration of justive" and on "Gita and its relevance" by Sri Ravi Shankar guruji of the Art of Living Foundation.

On Sunday, there will be sessions on "Moksha Sanyasa Yoga" by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, "Dwaitha" by Sri Viswesha Tirtha of Pejawar Math, and "Vishishtadwaitha" by Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar of Vijayawada. Organised by the trust and the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, there will be cultural programmes every evening, including "Kathakeerthana" by Bhadragiri Achyuta Dasa on Saturday.
