Kerala
The festival, whose date is determined by the sighting of the new moon on the previous evening by the Hilaal Committee and senior clerics, was this year celebrated the same day all over the State. Occasionally, the Perunnaal is celebrated in North Kerala a day earlier or later than in the south. Mass prayer meetings, held in the morning and attended by thousands, is the highlight of the festival.
